Rev. John Johnson grew up in Alleluia Community and St. Joseph’s Catholic
Parish in Augusta, Georgia. He studied at Franciscan University where he
graduated in 2002 earning a BA in Humanities and Catholic Culture and
minors in Philosophy and Spanish.
While at Franciscan, he studied in Mexico, served as President of the Dawson
Society, and began Pre-Med studies with the intention of applying to medical
school the following term. God had other plans; during 2002-3 academic year,
instead of medical school, he began work in the Savannah Vocation Office and
did some other pastoral duties at St. Peter Claver and St. Joseph Parishes
in Macon, Georgia. He completed his theological studies at Mount St. Mary’s
Seminary. He was ordained a transitional deacon at St. Joseph’s Church in
Augusta, Georgia in the summer of 2006. He was ordained to the priesthood
for the Diocese of Savannah on June 23rd, 2007! Father Johnson’s first
assignment as parochial vicar was at Sacred Heart Church, Warner Robins.
After receiving word from his bishop, he is presently In Residence at Our
Lady of Lourdes and will commence taking STL (Sacred Licentiate) classes
as a full-time student at the Pontifical JP II Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family.
