Msgr. FilardiMsgr. Filardi

Msgr. Filardi was born in October of 1965. He is the oldest of five children to Joan and Ed Filardi . He was raised in Columbia Maryland but lived in various states while moving occasionally due to his father’s job. He graduated from LaSalle University in Philadelphia in 1987 with a degree in Economics. He worked for the Bureau of Labor Statistics in DC before entering Mount Saint Mary’s Seminary in Emmitsburg , MD for the Archdiocese of Washington in 1990. He was ordained a priest in 1994 and has served at Saint Martin of Tours, Gaithersburg and Holy Redeemer in Kensington. In 2001, he worked as a priest secretary for Cardinal McCarrick and Assistant Vocations Director. In March 2005, he became a Monsignor and accompanied the Cardinal to the papal funeral and election in April 2005. He became Pastor of Saint Stephen Martyr parish in the Foggy Bottom neighborhood of Washington, in July 2005. In 2009, he was assigned Pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes in Bethesda, Maryland.


Msgr. BeattieMsgr. James Beattie

Msgr. James Beattie is a native of Philadelphia, where he attended La Salle College before transferring to Mount St. Mary’s College in Emmitsburg, MD. After graduation, he remained at the Mount for seminary, and was ordained for the Archdiocese of Washington in 1961. Msgr. Beattie served as Parochial Vicar at St. Ambrose in Cheverly, St. Michael in Ridge and St. Camillus in Silver Spring. He served as Administrator at St. Mary in Landover and as Pastor at St. Camillus, St. Catherine Laboure in Wheaton, and St. Bartholomew in Bethesda, from which he retired as pastor in 2011 before joining us at Our Lady of Lourdes. During his 50-plus years of priesthood, Msgr. Beattie also served as Director of the South East Catholic Center in Washington and as Director of Clergy Personnel for the Archdiocese. In addition to his valued cooperation at Lourdes, Msgr. Beattie also serves as a spiritual director at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary.


Father Rafael Barbieri

Rafael Barbieri is the parochial vicar at Our Lady of Lourdes.  He is originally from Jaboticabal (State of São Paulo), Brazil, where his home parish was also Our Lady of Lourdes.  He is the oldest of three siblings (sister and brother).  In college he received a degree in Tourism and Hotel Management.  He started discerning his vocation at the age of 20, as a member of the Neocatechumenal Way.  Fr. Barbieri joined the Redemptoris Mater Archdiocesan Missionary Seminary of Washington in 2004.  An interesting fact is that he played in a rock band before joining the seminary.  During his formation he served as a catechist in Florida and the Turks and Caicos Islands in the Caribbean.  Currently Fr. Rafael was most recently the parochial vicar at the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle where he had served since his ordination, in June, 2013.
